There are many backyard games that are fun for the entire family to play. Old-time fun has been replaced all too often by computers. Because of this, many people no longer remember that there are simple games that can be played in the backyard. Family gatherings like reunions and picnics are great places to play these games. Different types of backyard games are available, like the cornhole game. Other names for this game include the bean bag toss. Small bags filled with beans, corn, or sand are thrown at a board with a hole in it. One way points can be scored is by getting the bag into the hole. Landing on the board and remaining there also scores points. Getting to 21 first means that player wins the game.

Horseshoes is another game that many people enjoy. There are even tournaments for this game. It is seen as more of a sport by those that actively play it. Some think horseshoes are only for kids and the elderly. Horseshoes can be enjoyed by people in any age group. It is unfortunate that so many people have forgotten how much enjoyment there is to be found in these types of games. Those that still play horseshoes often enjoy not only the game but the camaraderie that is to be found with it. Familes and friends are brought closer by games.

Many people have forgotten about backyard games. Pockets of popularity remain. Not everyone sees these as just games. Many of these games started very humbly. A common backyard game with very humble beginnings is Washers. It is suspected that this game was started out of boredom. Throwing a washer into a can was the basis of this game. There was a good distance between the people and the can. This activity was bet on, but was also found to be fun. It was soon realized that it took skill to do this. The game started this way and the rest is history. Now there are national and international associations devoted to the playing of the washers game.

Those that camp, RV, and go to tailgate parties enjoy the Bolo Toss Game. It is often called ladder golf. Throughout the years this game has been called by many other names. The area of the country affects what this game is called. The game can be played either indoors or outdoors. Rainy weather will not stop play. If the weather turns bad the game can simply continue inside. Tossing the bolo at a ladder made of PVC is how the game is played. The bolo is a piece of rope with golf balls attached to either end. Hooking the bolo on a ladder rung is worth points.

Another backyard game is Bocce Ball. Bocce ball is both easy and fun. There are no age limits on the bocce ball game. Even in ancient times, bocce ball was popular. There have been many changes made through the years to the game. Bocce ball is a lot like bowling. Space is needed for this game. Regulations call for an area 10 feet by 76 feet. To play it only for fun a smaller space could be used. Players throw balls larger than the original ball on the course. Getting near the small ball is the key.
